Transcontinental Rally

A transcontinental rally is an automobile race with takes place across two or more continents. There are a number of these events organised each year and many of them aim to raise money for charities. The most famous example of a transcontinental rally is most likely the Gumball 3000, although it is not always a transcontinental rally as it takes place in different locations each year. The Gumball 3000 transcontinental rally is known for its extremely high entry fee, which last year was at £60,000. A great deal of celebrities take part and there have been a number of controversial issues surround this transcontinental rally. The 2007 Gumball 3000 was cut short when a car collided with a non-competing vehicle causing a fatality. Over 70 cars involved in the transcontinental rally were also stopped on the second day in Germany for speeding violations.

Another example of a transcontinental rally is the relatively new Mongol Rally which was started in 2004. It is relatively inexpensive to enter and contestants are expected to raise at least £1,000 for charity.  The focus of this transcontinental rally is more on fun and adventure rather than racing to the finish line and the cars used have to have an engine capacity of less than 1,200 cc.

The Fireball Run is an annual transcontinental rally that takes place in America and like the Mongol Rally it is a relatively new event. The Fireball Run also places a great emphasis on raising money for charities.
